It’s Earth Science Week!

This week is Earth Science Week – a time to dive into the beauty of our Earth and all its resources.

One of the many important aspects of earth science are watersheds and their natural drainage systems. Watersheds play a critical role in regulating the water cycle by capturing, storing, and distributing water throughout the environment. Additionally, they help to mitigate the effects of floods by controlling the flow of water, reducing the risk of flood damage in surrounding areas.

A great example is Ecolab’s manufacturing facility in Garyville, Louisiana – which enhances sustainability efforts for the largest watershed in North America, the Mississippi River Watershed. This plant has a robust strategy to create a net-positive water approach including reusing backwash water to reduce the plant’s intake of river water by 85,000 gallons a day.

Take time this week to dive deeper into learning about our incredible Earth and explore the many ways in which chemistry plays a key role in preserving its beauty and sustainability. By understanding how chemistry works, we can better appreciate the balance of our ecosystems and contribute to protecting the environment for future generations.
